How We Think About Price
Three principles, applied to every engagement.
Fee-Based, Not Commission-Based
You pay a transparent planning fee plus a published AUM rate. We do not get paid more for recommending one product over another. Our incentive is to be right, not to sell.
Value Before Fee
If the planning value we create is not demonstrably greater than the fee we charge, we will not move forward. We make this case openly on the first call.
No Hidden Surprises
You see the planning fee. You see the AUM rate. You see what is included. There are no asterisks waiting in your statement.
The Honest Math
The fee should be invisible. The value should not.
For most Ocean 6 clients, the value identified in year one alone is many multiples of the annual fee. Tax-efficient compensation moves, restructured corporate cash, properly owned insurance, coordinated estate planning. Compounding from there, year after year.
If we cannot make that case for your situation, we will not take the engagement. That is the whole point of the Discovery Session.
Pricing Questions We Hear Often

Why fee-based instead of commission-based?
Commission-based compensation pays more when you buy more product. That bakes a conflict of interest into every recommendation. Fee-based pricing means our incentive is to be right, not to sell. The plan calls for what it calls for, regardless of which line item it lives on.
Are there other fees on top of the planning fee and AUM?
Investment products carry their own internal management expense ratios (MERs), paid to the fund manager, not to Ocean 6. Insurance products carry premiums set by the insurer. All of this is disclosed line-by-line during planning. There are no hidden Ocean 6 fees layered behind anything.
Do you have a minimum?
We have an income and complexity minimum, not a hard investable-assets minimum. The Do It For You Method makes economic sense when there is enough complexity in your situation for our coordination to create real, measurable value. We work best with incorporated professionals with roughly $500K+ in gross income, or business owners with $200K+ in annual net income. Below those levels, a less intensive engagement is usually a better fit, and we will tell you that on the call.
Can I start with one piece of the plan instead of the full engagement?
Not unless you want to. The Do It For You Method is built to coordinate the professionals you already have, and we work with great accountants and lawyers across Canada every week. Some clients arrive with strong existing relationships and we slot in alongside them. Others arrive looking for fresh recommendations, and we introduce them to vetted partners. Either path works. The point is the coordination, not the personnel change.
What happens if my situation changes mid-year?
That is what the annual relationship is built for. The fee is not per-meeting. Life happens, the plan adapts. You call, we work it. If your situation changes dramatically (a sale, a major liquidity event, a new business), we re-scope the relationship at renewal so the fee continues to reflect the actual complexity.
