Becoming the Best Possible Version of Yourself

What are your goals? What are you ultimately trying to accomplish with your life?

Not just with money but all areas of your life: relationships, skills, reputation…

These are the questions we ask clients when we first meet them.

Understanding your goals is so important when it comes to financial planning because if you don’t know where you’re going, you’re never going to get there.

When you’re clear on your goals, you can start to apply them to your financial decisions. Like how you should allocate your income, how much risk you can manage on your investments or how much insurance you need to protect your family.

So try this, pick an age in the future when you want to have accomplished complete financial freedom and start to picture:

  • Where do you live?
  • What do you do in your free time?
  • What do your surroundings look like?

Get clear on where you are going, what your goals are and what you are excited about accomplishing in your life. This goal setting and visualization exercise is a great start: The Future You Visualization & Goals Planner

Life is not about working towards retirement so we can finally start enjoying things. For our parent’s generation the path was often to get a good job, pay off the mortgage and save so someday you won’t have to work anymore. But if you love what you do and you’re passionate about it, retirement is not the end goal.

When business owners and entrepreneurs are passionate about what they are doing, retirement is not an exciting future. The exciting future is to do more of what we love to do today rather than how can we stop doing what we hate doing thirty years from now.
